Itinerary

We will welcome you on the afternoon of the 1st day, spend day 2, 3 & 4 on the river, on the afternoon of day 4 you return to our base camp. You overnight with us and depart on the 5th day after breakfast.

Arrive at Base camp:
Arrive at our base camp any time after 4:00 PM, located just across the Namibian border. Our camp manager will be on hand to welcome you. Take some time to relax with a refreshing swim or a game of volleyball. Dinner will be served at 7:00 PM, followed by an evening around the campfire to get to know everyone. At 8:00 PM, we’ll hold a “packing speech” where we’ll demonstrate how to pack your luggage, liquid refreshments, and personal items. This is also a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have about the river adventure ahead. Your friendly guide will be happy to ease any concerns and ensure you’re fully prepared.
Day 1 on river:
After an early breakfast, your guide will give a safety briefing and show you how to use the equipment. You’ll learn the basics of paddling, how to handle a capsize, and techniques for navigating rapids safely. Before heading to the river, you can fill your cooler box with ice and refreshments. You’ll enter the river directly from the camp and spend the morning drifting, honing your paddling skills, and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We’ll continue downstream until it’s time to set up camp for the night.
Day 2 on river:
On the second morning, wake up to the serene beauty of the desert and continue drifting downriver. Enjoy swimming, tossing a frisbee, or simply relaxing as you make your way along the river. Each night, we’ll camp at a selected spot along the riverbanks, providing plenty of opportunities to unwind and take in the peaceful surroundings.
Day 3 on river:
On the third and final day, enjoy a leisurely day of drifting with the current. If the river is low, you’ll row only to the collection point at Sjambok, where you can hike up to an abandoned fluorspar mine for a stunning panoramic view of the Richtersveld and the winding Orange River. If the river is full and the current is strong, you’ll continue to the collection point at Aussenkehr. You’ll be picked up between 2 PM and 4 PM. Congratulations! If you reached Sjambok, you covered approximately 45 km, and if you made it to Aussenkehr, you completed about 60 km. We’ll drive through the semi-desert back to base camp, where you can relax while the guides prepare dinner and spend your final night at the camp.
After a memorable river journey, you are free to head home the following morning after breakfast.
