Arrival Day at base camp:
Arrive at our base camp any time after 4:00 PM—just across the Namibian border and be ready to kick off your adventure. Your Camp Manager will be there to greet you. Take a moment to unwind—enjoy a swim or join in a game of volleyball to shake off the travel. Dinner is served at 7:00 PM, followed by an evening around the campfire where you’ll have a chance to connect with your group. At 8:00 PM, your guide will host a quick “packing talk” to walk you through stowing your kit, drinks, and essentials for the trip – the perfect time for answering any last-minute questions.
Start the next day with an early breakfast, then get prepped for the river with a safety briefing and equipment overview. You’ll get the basics of paddling, what to do if your canoe flips (don’t worry, you’ll be in good hands), and how to handle the rapids. Stock your cooler with ice and drinks before we hit the river from base camp. Spend the morning paddling through dramatic scenery and perfecting your stroke. Lunch will be served along the riverbank, after which the journey continues downstream to our riverside camp.

Lunch is typically served between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM and we typically try to stop for the evening by 4 or 5pm. But exact times can vary based on the group, water levels, and other factors. Your guide will decide the best times to stop.

Day two – rise early to another energizing breakfast and get set for the next stretch of your river journey. Pack up camp, greet the sunrise, and launch into a laid-back morning paddle—there’s plenty of time for a quick swim, a riverside game, or just soaking up the scenery as the landscape shifts around you. On day three we have a re-supply at Sjambok, there you will have the option to hike up to the old fluorspar mine for a killer view of the Richtersveld and the sweeping Orange River. There will be another re-supply opportunity on day four at Aussenkehr. Each night, you’ll set up camp along the riverbank, giving you space to relax, recharge, and connect with the crew beneath the wide-open sky.

On your fifth and final day, you paddle toward the collection point at S-bend, clocking about 75 kilometers in total! Expect to be picked up between 2:00 and 4:00 PM. From there, hop in the shuttle for a scenic drive back across the desert to base camp, where you can unwind while your guides whip up a farewell dinner and you enjoy your last night beneath the southern stars.

If you’re joined by a 3-day trip, your resupply will take place at Sjambok on the afternoon of the third day. And your journey will end at Aussenkehr, with around 60 km completed. End point may vary depending on water levels.

The next morning, after one last breakfast with your Canoe Crew, you’re free to head home—until the next time you feel the call: Canoe. Camp. Repeat.
